Creating Sustainable and Profitable Farmer-Owned Businesses

The Satyamev Jayate Farmer Cup is a competition between farmer collectives in Maharashtra to do the best work in sustainable agriculture. Through this competition, Paani Foundation is creating an ecosystem of scientific knowledge and hand-holding to improve farmer livelihoods at scale via climate-harmonious agricultural practices. Why this Competition?

The dream of farmer prosperity and a drought-free Maharashtra cannot be achieved by water conservation alone. It is critical to work on smart water management, especially in agriculture. However, transitioning from traditional farming methods isn’t easy for farmers. The key to unlocking this transformation lies in making water-smart agriculture not just sustainable, but remunerative. The Farmer Cup creates an ecosystem for farmers to do just this.

Equipped with multiple trainings, a digital farming school which connects farmers to scientists, and a robust network to navigate challenges, farmers find strength in knowledge and collectivisation. They use their collective strength to slash cultivation costs, engage in shared labour and command better prices for their high-quality produce.
